Enjoy the adventure of trekking through some of
Switzerland's most classic high alpine routes. This is a point-to-point
journey over 3 glaciers, 4 passes, and through ice fields and lush valleys
into the heart of the Berner Oberland. One should be able to walk up
to 6 hours a day including some days of steady 3-4 hour climbs to experience
the full reward of this varied Swiss Alpine terrain. This trek does
not require that you be a mountaineer nor do you need to buy special
boots or equipment.
Day 1-3: Secluded Hanging Valley
A day of easy walking take in spectacular vistas before we strap on
the cramp-ons & trek across the ice with an expert mountaineering
guide. Serenity at night atop the Aletsch Glacier is indeed memorable.
After a second day along mysterious crevasses our path drops down into
a secluded lush valley ripe with legends & myth.
Lodgings for 2 nights: are at a very quiet and relaxing hotel. Members of the “Silence” hotels overlooks pastures, creeks and mountains and is a short walk to the quaint village. Facilities include a brand new swimming pool & sauna (very nice people and a very good award-winning restaurant-- nice presentation and lots of choice.)
Day 4: Isolated Legendary Valley
An easy day's hike allows us the opportunity to explore this valley
that has been shaped by intense glaciation. For centuries this valley
had been cut off from the rest of the world due to the deep gorge and
many glaciers surrounding it. This isolated condition accounts for many
strange customs, legends & myths.
Lodgings: same as previous night
Day 5: Prehistoric Pass
We hike over an ancient glacial pass that had been the scene of many
bloody battles between the people of Vallis and the Berner Oberland.
This is a challenging day over another glacier and into a lush wild
narrow hanging valley. We spend the evening in this wild valley that
drops off dramatically at one end and meets the glacier at the other.
Lodgings for 3 nights we stay in an extremely friendly 4-star hotel offering splendid views of the Jungfrau and outstanding cuisine. There is a sauna & wellness center available.
Day 6-8: Splendid Views and 2 Passes
We hike out of this hanging valley to one of Switzerland's most beautiful
mountain lakes on our way up to the pass known as the "high doorway".
Perched above this pass our hut commands views of some of the most magnificent
rugged Alpen scenery in Switzerland. Our final two days cross over 2
passes with magical vistas into wondrous glacial valleys, before we
swagger into a tourist center of the Berner-Oberland: Lauterbrunnental.
